Lonely Road South America E27: Mud, Puddles, & Minor Heart Attacks
460km of Ruta 40 through red rock canyons, a famous mountain pass, and Argentina's wine country — then straight into mud, flooded river crossings and the Road of Arrows.
Day 123-125 of my solo motorcycle trip through Argentina takes me from the red sandstone canyons of Talampaya National Park onto the legendary Ruta 40 — climbing the Cuesta de Miranda pass, cruising through Chilecito, and covering 460km in a day to reach the wine capital of Cafayate.
After two days of R&R (and plenty of Malbec), the road turns wild again: unsealed tracks, flooded badenes, mud, detours and the stunning Quebrada de Las Flechas on the way into Cachi — the last stop before the final climb of the trip.
